Carl F. Sayles (Chic), of Austin, MN, departed this earthly life for his eternal life in Heaven Dec. 17. He was born in Laclede, MO, June 4, 1919 to Carl F. and Luella (McAlister) Sayles. Chic is survived by his wife of 74 years, Doris (Day) Sayles. He worked as a salesman and a building contractor for most of his life, but the job he loved most after retirement was being a playground attendant at Becker Primary School in MN. For over 50 years Chic and Doris had Bible studies in their home.
After retirement they traveled to Thailand several times to aid a missionary friend. Chic will be remembered for his love for the Lord, his sense of humor, his loving hugs, and overwhelming generosity. He leaves behind a spiritual legacy and beloved family and friends.
He is also survived by his children: Gregory (Joy) Sayles of Bettendorf, IA; Cheryl (David) Van Wingerden, of Austin, MN; 4 granddaughters: Heidi (Jeff) Anderson, Cori (Ozzie) Lindquist, Lora Sayles, Marcia Sayles and 10 greatgrandchildren.
A memorial service will be held at Faith Church, 1800 12th St. SW, Austin, MN, on Sat., Dec. 30 at 1 p.m. Light refreshments following the service.
