Wright Co. Fair back for its 150th year

The Wright Co. Fair was in full swing last week, back to celebrate its 150 th year. Along with the traditional things that every fairgoer looks forward to such as the carnival midway, livestock and general exhibits, Machinery Hill, and lots of great food, there were also a wide variety of fun and exciting events and entertainment for all ages.

Pie eating contests were held, Los Moralitos Circus and puppet and magic shows amazed youngsters, and the more competitive attendees participated in the kids’ coin scramble, Bingo, and cash drawings. Saturday’s diaper derby had infants crawling to be the first to the finish line, although there were a few participants who were more interested in just checking out the crowd.

There were also daily helicopter rides, exotic animals, fireworks on Saturday evening, and more.

One of the most popular performances at the fair was once again the All-American Lumberjack Show, which offered multiple shows throughout the fair. The participants entertained the crowds with log rolling, chain saw demos, and sculpture carving.

Other shows included the collector car and truck show, mud truck show, motorcycle show, and talent show, where local talent showed off what they were best at to cheers and applause.

This year’s Grandstand featured a demolition derby, combine demo derby, and tractor and truck pull.

Friday was Senior Citizens Day and Saturday was Military Day, featuring a program honoring veterans. The always popular Kids Tractor Pull was held later that day.

As always, the 4-H building was a popular place to eat and rest, with members of the Clearwater 4-H club Northern Peak taking their turn working there on Saturday by taking orders, serving food, and cleaning up.

The fair was well-attended each day, with people of all ages enjoying its return.
