On January 8, Santiago hosted their monthly town meeting.
Tensions were high this meeting with Boulder Creek Wine Bar being the topic of discussion. A line was drawn between the residents of Santiago and the owners and patrons of Boulder Creek Wine and Bar.
To start the night off, the board members went over the request for three amendments. The first amendment involved the policy for prepackaged food. Debate broke out on whether or not Boulder Creek Wine Bar should be able to have prepackaged food on their premises. Some argued that there are regular inspections that take place to monitor the situation, while others argued that the CUP does not allow for food at all. The final motion was approved to accept cheese and crackers as the only prepackaged food.
The second amendment involved the increase of parking at Boulder Creek Wine Bar. The request involved more parking due to the increase in business. The owners are asking for 70 spots instead of the 50 they have now. This time, some people argued that by adding more parking it will increase the amount of intoxicated drivers on the road and with there being no sidewalk, children may be in danger of getting hit. Other people argued that this is not the kind of place you go to get drunk, many come for the sense of community and for meeting new people in the community.
The board decided to stay neutral on this issue and instead send it to the planning commission to evaluate the request.
The third amendment involved the development of live music at Boulder Creek Wine Bar. The owners would like to bring in live music Sunday and Monday afternoons. Some people argue that the music will disrupt people in their homes and go late into the night. Others argued that there will be no music after 5 p.m. and the music played will be at a respectable volume that can be monitored by a decibel reader.
The board ultimately decided that they will defer their vote to the zoning committee to make the final decision.
After the three amendments, an IUP request came up for two sip and shops events at Boulder Creek Wine Bar. One would be the Saturday after Memorial Day and the other would be the first of September.
There was an argument on how many people would attend these events and how many vehicles would accompany them. Others argued that they have not exceeded the limit on which they can have attendees.
The board decided to send the request to the planning commission which will send it to the county board.
Once the topic of Boulder Creek Wine Bar had been discussed the room had cleared out and the board could get back to the regular town meeting.
Police Report
The police report had included 81 calls for service with some being for medical and others for security checks.
Road Report
Next was the road commission which involved general maintenance and discussion on whether or not to finish micro-sealing the roads. Three miles of road have already been done and there is 6.23 miles left to go. Estimated amount is around $500,000 which includes the $10,000 mobilization fee. Micro-sealing would last 10 years compared to the crack-sealing which only lasts a couple years.
Clean-Up Day
Clean up day is scheduled for April 26, from 8 a.m. until noon with the same vendor and spot as last time.
