Rumors, innuendos, speculation and loose lips have spurred the Citizen-Tribune to try and squelch some of the scuttlebutt about old and new businesses happening in the City of Becker.
Right next door to the Citizen-Tribune offices, a couple of brand-new signs were erected at the old Bulldog Pizza building indicating a new Mexican restaurant was opening soon. The sign says, “Los Ortizes” meaning the Ortizes will be running the eatery and with the slew of activity in and around the building, the restaurant appears to be close to opening their doors for their first customers very soon.
The new laundromat located along Hwy. 10 is still on course to open late spring or early summer and will be called, Three Ladies Laundry. The business will feature six new Speed Queen 20 lb. front load washers, six - 30 lb. front load washers, and two - 60 lb. front load washers. Owners Milissa Johnson and Tim Fisher will also have six double-stack Maytag 30 lb. dryers and one 75 lb. dryer for the big comforters and quilts.
The Coach House Restaurant recently re-opened their doors for business June 6 with a new menu and other changes. The restaurant had been closed since around Easter when one of the owners left for their homeland of Jerusalem and some unexpected circumstances caused the business to stay closed until this past Tuesday.
The highly-anticipated opening of LaFloyd’s Restaurant and Cafe at the old Pedal Inn Antiques location looks to have died as the Citizen-Tribune was told the potential owner, Larry Sperr, “hit some snags” in development. Becker staff said the “snags” did not involve the city.
No other information was made available to the Citizen-Tribune in regards to further development of the site.
Kwik Trips seem to be popping up in just about every community nowadays including one of their newest stores just down the road in Big Lake. Kwik Trip approached SuperAmerica in Becker with the hopes of buying and renovating the gas station along Rolling Ridge, but that plan fell through on a first right to refusal ruling.
Kwik Trip then turned their attention to the property kiddie-corner from SA and looks to break ground very soon on a brand-new gas station/store that rivals many of their 7,200-square-foot stores with fuel sales and car wash.
