As the leaves begin to turn, some area antique tractor enthusiast’s thoughts turn to one last long ride aboard their beloved machines before the winter sets in.
The 2014 Vintage Tractor Ride will take place on Sat., Sept. 6, when drivers and machines will converge on the parking lot at Becker Baptist Church. Once the route has been discussed and agreed upon, the ancient engines will roar to life and the machines will head out to their agreed destination at 9 a.m., led as ever by Clear Lake tractor enthusiast Lou Husmann on his bright red Farmall.
Husmann has been the organizer of the fall ride ever since it began several years ago, and his red tractor is also well known for pulling the hayrides at the Becker Baptist Church Fall Carnival.
Fellow tractor enthusiast Dan Jergenson and Hussman are planning to get together soon to plot the route for the 2014 ride, which will take the group from Becker up to Zimmerman, where they will roll up to the Pine Cone Manor senior citizen’s home. There they will visit with the residents and answer questions about their machines, some of which date back to the 1950’s. By consensus, all machines on the ride must have been manufactured by 1970 or earlier.
