Town Board Okays Cartway

The Clearwater Township Board of Supervisors Monday gave its approval for a cartway to be built as a private driveway to a parcel at the intersection of Gowan Ave. and 130th Street.

Clerk Jean Just said the property is owned by Susan Van Pelt and has one building entitlement. It was purchased in 1993. At that time a cartway order was recorded with Wright County
“In that order it stated the township would have to have a resolution stating the cartway has been established to acceptable design standards,” said Just.

The issue is, the current owner is attempting to sell the property. But without a legal access, whoever buys the parcel can’t build on it. Once the township okays the cartway and passes a resolution that it is acceptable, the county can issue a building permit.

“The question is,  what are you going to accept,” she asked the board. “Is a driveway good enough or are you going to expect them to  have a wider road.”

Supervisor Bill Langenbacher said he spoke with Wright County Zoning Administrator Sean Riley, who suggested the board allow a private driveway which would need to be upgraded to township standards should the property ever be developed in the future beyond one residence.

That was the decision of the board. Once the driveway is completed, the board can pass a resolution of acceptance.

Officer Plaques
The township will be recognizing its past officers by placing plaques with their names on the wall of town hall.

The board approved the purchase of four plaques at a total cost of about $680. Clerk Just said former Clerk Sharon Lee researched all the names and dates when past officers served the township.

She said the township has had a few individual plaques made when someone retired. But by placing everyone’s nameplate on a plaque, they can all be remembered.

The township has had 71 supervisors, 18 clerks and 18 treasurers.

LED Bulbs
The board agreed to move forward with replacing all the 32-watt fluorescent bulbs in the maintenance shop with four-foot 13-watt LED bulbs to save money.

The township can file for a rebate from Wright Hennepin Electric and be partially reimbursed for the new bulbs.

Supervisor Scott Miller said he replaced the bulbs in his shop at Interstate Automotive and got about half his investment back.
