Three Incumbents On Haven Township Ballot

Three incumbent Haven Township supervisors are seeking new three-year terms in the Nov. 4 election.  Kathleen Sims-Kosloski, Randy Linn and Michael Pesch are all running without opposition this year.  Their individual responses to the Citizen campaign questionnaire are shown below:

Kathleen Sims-Kosloski
I have served on the Haven Township board for 2 and 1/2 terms – after I was appointed due to an unforeseen vacancy. I participate on the air port board, APO, co-negotiate the Haven Township fire contract with Sauk Rapids Fire Department, and organize our annual "Clean-up Day" for Haven and I am the utilities liaison for the township right-of-way.

As an educator I have held a wide a variety of positions of union leadership, lead in educational reform through teacher evaluation processes, I am very active in candidate vetting and am an active voting participant. I was a social worker for 8 years post BA degree and have a master’s degree in early childhood special education and have been a teacher for the past 26 years at Foley Elementary.

I am concerned and invested in our orderly annexation agreement with St. Cloud. Protecting the rights of living in a township with local governance is important when wanting to maintain the lifestyle of rural living.

I am interested and keenly aware of the complexities of housing developments being a "neighbor" to farming operations, water ways, aggregate mining and industrial development.
Preservation of our quality of life related to vibrant neighborhoods and farmsteads with minimal crime issues, viable use and health of water bodies and water ways, well maintained road ways and open communication through the use of GRASSROOTS government at the township level.

The other thing I would like to add is that I have lived at my current address for 30 years, been married to Randy Kosloski for 35 years, have two grown children who grew up in Haven Township, calling it home for their entire lives.

Randy Linn
I am a lifelong resident of the St. Cloud area, have been married for 18 years and have two daughters – one in 10th grade and one in 6th grade.  My wife and I are very fortunate and proud to be able to raise our family in the town we both grew up in, surrounded by both of our families.

In addition to serving on the Township Board, I also serve on the Sherburne County Solid Waste Advisory Committee, providing comments on issues that impact Sherburne County.  During the day, I split my time between providing services as the Director of Finance for both TelCom Construction, Inc. and Muller Family Theatres.

I initially came to serve the township board as a representative of the community when a proposed waste to energy plant was being considered for the Industrial Park off Opportunity Drive – directly across the river from our township.  The board at the time recognized my experience on this subject matter - I grew up working in our family-owned refuse and recycling company – which, with the assistance of a great team and colleagues - was one of the pioneers in establishing recycling programs within Sherburne County.

I have developed a passion for preserving our environment from that experience.  Secondly, I feel the most important role of this board and the supervisor position is to deliver local services at the behest and demand of the Township Citizens.

I feel that the business acumen I acquired through my past experiences and current employment in the financial field compliments the talent of the other members serving on the township board in making financial decisions.

Michael Pesch
Background Information
I am a professor of operations management at St. Cloud State University.  I live with my wife Connie in the Deer Haven development off Deltone Road/12th St. S.E.  We have three adult daughters, and we belong to St. Augustine Church.

 Three Issues
1. Planning road maintenance, prioritizing road projects, tapping available state and county funding, and reserving funds for major road projects is a major responsibility of the Board of Supervisors.

2. Preserving the rural quality of life is a priority of Haven residents and the Board should adhere to that standard when making zoning and variance decisions.

3. Contributing to my community is a strong value for me.  Haven Township is a beautiful, thriving, and friendly community that I am privileged to live in.
