Theft At Tech High School

During a recent fiscal year-end review of student activities accounts by the business services department, the St. Cloud School District discovered significant discrepancies in student activities account balances at Tech High School.

An independent audit requested by the school district uncovered credible evidence of theft by a former employee and the matter was immediately turned over to the St. Cloud Police Dept. As a result of the police investigation, theft-related felony charges are pending.

The total amount of stolen funds is reported in excess of $100,000 over the past two years, and investigation is ongoing. The district is insured for theft and the loss is limited to a $2,500 insurance deductible.

All student activities accounts are now subject to new controls through the district business services office and more stringent financial controls will be instituted for all cash transactions throughout the school district.
