‘Thanksgiving’ Theme At First Grade Concert

Camera phones flashed and video recorders whirred as parents recorded the First Grade Concert performance at Becker Primary School Wednesday afternoon.  Music Teacher Erika Bakke brought her students together for a program titled “Thankful Every Day”, which included patriotic themes as well as the celebration of Thanksgiving.

Following an introduction by BPS Principal Dale Christensen, the students, wearing Thanksgiving-themed headgear representing Native Americans, Pilgrims and one turkey, began their concert with an enthusiastic rendition of “We the People” by John Jacobson and Mac Huff.  That was followed by “Thanks for Everything” by Cheryl Lavender, and then a folk song from Ghana titled “Tue, Tue” which gives thanks for a successful harvest.  They then sang “Turkey Tom”, arranged by Cristi Cary Miller, and “Thankful” by Sager, Foster and Page, before closing their concert with a reprise of “We the People.”

The students had done an all-school performance Wednesday morning, and they performed another public concert Thursday afternoon.
