A rainy Wednesday morning seemed about to doom the annual Becker Baptist Church Carnival, but church staff persevered and the skies yielded a bright and sunny afternoon for the event, which has been a harbinger of the end of summer for the congregation for over 20 years.
As always, the event featured a host of kid’s games, fire engines and police cars from the City of Becker and a variety of games of skill, including rope climbing, the devilish Jacob’s ladder, pulling contests and dodge-ball for the older kids. Corn dogs, cotton candy and other treats were also in the mix as young and old enjoyed a lovely evening of conversation and community.
Popular fixture “Buzz the Clown” was also on hand, this year selling red “noses” for charity and giving attendees the opportunity to “pick their noses” in a public setting.
Clear Lake’s Lou Husmann was also on hand, providing the traditional hay rides at the wheel of his famous red 1946 Farmall tractor.
Church groups manned tables at the event as well, signing up volunteers for various activities in the year ahead.
