Students Pledge To Be Godly At Annual Baccalaureate

Dozens of Becker High School graduates attended this year’s annual Baccalaureate in the old school auditorium Thursday to reflect on their past years.

Becker Evangelical Church hosted the event and Pastor Patrick Drury welcomed the students, friends and families and gave an opening prayer.

The cover of the evening’s program had the following quote, “Let no one despise you for your youth, but set the believers an example in speech, in conduct, in love, in faith and purity.”
After an opening worship song by the worship team, student Jasmine Johnson read from 1Timothy. 4:1-13 which describes how some will turn from their faith in the end times and others will tell people they are doing things wrong, but the Bible encourages everyone to reject such notions and not waste ones time arguing over godless ideas and old wives’ tales and instead train oneself to be godly.

Terrific advice for the youth of today.

The evening’s program also consisted of a speech from student Tyler Lindquist and reflections from a mentor of theirs, Gretchen Bordson.

During the offering, a video montage was displayed on the screen which led into worship songs, “Revelation Song”, “10,000 Reasons” and “In Christ Alone”.

There was a parent/child prayer with Max and Kristin Salvevold and the closing song by the worship team was, “You Make Me Brave.”

Youth Pastor Chris Salvevold gave the benediction and the students and guests were recessed to the commons area for treats and refreshments.

Thursday’s ceremony was conceived by a  team of graduates who had been working on the elements of a service created to honor God for His faithfulness in their lives, and celebrate their response to Him.

The 2017 Baccalaureate committee consists of Bridget Buchholz, Jasmine Johnson, Emily Krogstad, Tyler Lindquist, Branden Roemer, Maddie Schmidt, Kevin Drehmel, Jeremy Hallquist, Nate Laurence, Chris Salvevold and Doug Watercott.
