Stolen Cross Walk Signs A Pain For Township

In a 40-minute meeting, the Santiago Town Board met recently to discuss cross walk signs, licenses, cancer walk, parking lot lights and roads.

Cross Walk Signs
Clerk Kathy Woolard informed the board the cross walk signs at Co. Rd. 11 and Co. Rd. 3 were stolen recently. Woolard said it was the second set of cross walk signs stolen over the years that were supplied by the Sherburne County Sheriff’s Dept.

Sheriff Joel Brott was informed of the thefts, but he said the two sets were all his department could possibly supply for the township at this time.

After much discussion, the board directed Woolard to contact Brott and have him attend their July meeting to discuss the possible installation of solar speed signs or “something more permanent to slow motorists coming into town.”

Hope Chest Walk
Members of the Hope Chest Walk for Cancer applied for a gambling permit for an event they planned to hold at Bailey Rays.

The board signed and approved the request.

Tobacco License
The Santiago Store applied for their annual tobacco license and the process was signed and approved by the board.

Building Report
The lights in the parking lot at township hall have been replaced by LED bulbs and the board is waiting on the bill for services to come in after all rebates were applied for.

Board members continued conversation on the parking lot with members asking about wires hanging from a pole in the parking lot and whose responsibility it is to make repairs.

The board unanimously decided to pass that responsibility to East Central Electric for the repairs.

Park Report
Chairman Stuart Nelson said the Princeton baseball team is very happy and grateful for the use of the ball fields for their games.

Dave Dalheimer said the pavillion is completed and looks nice. Dalheimer is currently working on getting advertisement signs finished for the park.

Road Report
Board Member Dave Jehoich said the roads look good in the township and ditch mowing is scheduled to begin in July.

Nelson said he spoke to Bill Knutson about rocks being in his ditch on 7th Street and Knutson told Nelson he had spoken with the county and has their approval.

Herbst said they would start graveling 40th and 175th as instructed by the road review group.

Sheriff’s Report
Deputy Oaches said his department received 42 calls for service in May. No other issues or questions were directed to Oaches.

Budget Report
The expenditure budget report totaled $19,007.44, including claims 84-103 and were unanimously approved to be paid.

Each board member refrained from voting on his particular claim.
