Members of Palmer Twp. met recently to discuss roads and signs, a sprinkler system, a coolant system and clean-up day.
Sprinkler System
Mitch Hoefer received three bids for putting in a sprinkler system at the park. The bids came out between $5,600 and $5,800. Hoefer said if the board decides not to put in the
sprinkler system, they will be required to fix the water lines to add a split between the potable water and fresh water.
The bid for adding the split is $375.
Hoefer says it was recommended the board table the decision until after the annual meeting (March 14) to see where the budget is for this year.
Hoefer also reported the siding on the pavilion is complete.
Coolant System
The board continued their generator discussion from their February meeting on adding an alert light on the enunciator panel and performing maintenance on the coolant system.
The supervisors agreed that the maintenance on the coolant system should be done this year. It was recommended to get another quote from Cummings to compare with Midwest.
The supervisors recommended revisiting the addition of an alert light on the enunciator panel in another year or so to determine the necessity.
Roads and Signs
Richard Larson reported there was a fallen tree in the road right of way and he went ahead and had it cleared.
Hoefer reported he has the signs ready to install and will do so when the frost comes out of the ground.
Lake Association
Supervisor Steve Demeules said LID (Lake Improvement District) is taking over the weed spraying. LID received a grant from the DNR for $1,700 and another one from Soil and Water for $5,500.
Demeules also reported that Clear Lake Twp. has removed the dumpster from Elk Lake.
Clean-Up Day
Roger Johnson reported the Earth Day cleanup event is scheduled for May 20 from 7 a.m. to 1 p.m.
Sheriff’s Report
Officer Bob Stangler reported that there were 98 calls for service in February, compared to 61 in 2016 and 65 in 2015.
There were 55 traffic violations with 11 offenses charged by citations. There were no burglaries, no thefts, no crashes with injury and one crash with property damage. Stangler said there were two DUI's and two warnings for ATV. There was also one recovery of stolen property.
Stangler advised the board that St. Patrick's Day is the second leading day for DUI after Labor Day. He said there would be extra officers on duty March 17.
Stangler said a depth finder was found on Co. Rd. 16. Citizens, he said, can call the sheriff's department with a description to claim it.
