The Clearwater Heritage Days celebration is just a few weeks away, (Aug. 4-5) and this year’s event is a bit smaller than in previous years.
Friday’s events are just about the same as always. The day starts with the Kiddie Parade at 4:30 p.m. beginning at the old Coborn’s store site and finishing at the end of the shopping plaza parking lot near Dairy Queen.
The parade typically features Clearwater Royalty leading the march, with many kids showing off their costumes.
Family Fun Night begins at the conclusion of the Kiddie Parade, with inflatables, a rock climbing wall, dace-painting, a bungee trampoline, DJ music and other activities for kids.
The traditional Lions’ dinner, with all-you-can-eat corn on the cobb, starts at 5 p.m. and continues through most of the evening.
Square dancing, with Abe Maier calling the dances, starts at 5:30 p.m. in front of the Clearwater Library and continues until the big parade starts at 7 p.m. The parade features lots of businesses, organizations, church groups, visiting royalty floats as well as musical entertainment.
A Clearwater Ambassador presentation follows the parade. There is no 2017-2018 pageant this year. But current royalty will be congratulated by the sparkle section and the people of Clearwater for their contribution to the community over the past year.
The evening concludes with a fireworks presentation at dusk.
Activities on Saturday are fewer than in past years.
The Rendezvous historical re-enactors will be at Riverside Park starting early in the morning, demonstrating the skills the early settlers used along the Clearwater River.
