Andrew Witter, Sherburne County director of public works and county engineer, discusses the turning back of County Road 66 to Haven Township during the public hearing on the matter Monday night.

Sherburne County Turns Back Co Rd 66 To Haven Township

The Haven Township Board began their meeting Monday night with a public hearing on Sherburne County turning back County Road 66 to the township.

Andrew Witter, county director of public works and county engineer, attended the meeting to update the board on the issue and answer questions.

He informed the board the road has been reconstructed to the township’s specifications, and it has been renamed Haven Road. The county will be working with each of the property owners along the road to help with getting materials redone due to the name change.

Haven Township will assume the road Dec. 23 at 11:59 p.m.

Road Updates
The 32nd and 52nd Street railroad crossing will most likely take place fall 2017 or later.

Supervisor Kathi Kosloski informed the board she had Jon Bogart from Bogart, Pederson & Associates, Inc. regarding the Elk River Estates road improvement, and he had a few people he still needed to speak with regarding the issue.

Supervisor Mark Knowles expressed concern the proposal the township received from Bogart was much higher than the ones they had gotten on their own, with Bogart coming in at over $700,000 versus proposals the township received that were under $350,000.

He stated Bogart’s proposal was out of the realm of what the township needed to spend on the road, and said the board should discuss the issue further.

Snowplow Updates
Knowles said although Driveway Services LLC still has a learning curve regarding the township’s roads, they were way ahead of where the township was last year. Feedback on the recent road plowing was positive.

Other Business
Knowles told the board he hadn’t done anything yet with the letter from Clear Lake Township asking if they would like to partner on roadway rehabilitations they were looking at doing in the next few years; he will try to respond before the January meeting.

Kosloski informed the board she had attended the recent St. Cloud Municipal Airport meeting, and they were moving ahead with their t-hanger. She reminded the airport they needed to be in contact with the township regarding MS4 (municipal separate storm sewer system).

She said Allegiant will be running out of the airport Wednesdays, Thursdays, Saturdays and Sundays beginning in January, and there was a possibility that Sun Country may offer a flight to Lake Tahoe in May.

Deputy Clerk Tammy Schefers informed the board the township’s newsletter would be coming out in January.

The sheriff reported 74 incidents in November, including 24 traffic, one burglary of tools from an unattached garage, one theft and 14 accidents.

The next Haven Township meeting will be January 23 at 7 p.m.
