Serving their communities and each other

Sherburne State Bank and Glenwood State Bank share a common purpose – to serve the communities in which they are a part.  So, when Candice Hanson, Chief Operations Officer at SSB was asked by her ATM vendor if they would be willing to divert their new ATM to GSB, she said yes.  For Hanson, it was an easy decision to make.  Community Banks throughout Minnesota stand together.

A Stolen ATM

On Wed., June 26, between 3-3:40 a.m., a stolen white pickup pulled up next to the ATM at Glenwood State Bank in Alexandria and proceeded to empty it.  The suspects left the scene and later abandoned their vehicle having left the ATM damaged and unrepairable.  A new ATM would not be available until sometime in January of 2025.  Because of the decision made by Sherburne State Bank, GSB had their new ATM up and running after only five weeks.

Peter Nelson, President of GSB was grateful.

“When we heard what Sherburne Bank was willing to do for us, we were absolutely floored,” he said. “It was such a selfless act.  Not only are they committed to serving their own customers and communities, but they are committed to serving another community bank as well.  They could have seen us as a competitor, but they saw us as a friend instead.  It is truly impressive and we are so grateful.”

Making Due

Fortunately, Sherburne State Bank did not have to wait until the end of the year to receive their new ATM.  They received it on Mon., Oct. 7.

For Hanson, the whole experience was worth it.

“It highlights what the driving factor of community banking is which is serving our communities.”
