Road Updates Discussed At Haven Twp. Meeting

With only a few items on their agenda, Haven Twp. had a brief meeting Monday night.

Report Report
Jeff Rhodes from Driveway Services updated the board on recent road maintenance, which has included working on brush and trees in the Prairie Woods and River Haven areas. Road patching has been completed in Valley View, Deer Haven and Sherwood West, although he noted new holes had been observed on the latter that will need to be fixed.

Supervisor Jeff Schlingmann asked Rhodes to install more chevrons along 52nd and 16th Street in River Haven so it’s more apparent there’s a curve coming up. Vehicles have been missing it and going down a resident’s driveway, causing damage.

Rhodes informed the board he was waiting to hear  from the railroad concerning the stop signs that need to be taken down on 32nd and 52nd Street in order to install the new crossing gates.

Airport Update
Supervisor Kathi Kosloski informed the board the St. Cloud Regional Airport is getting ready for the anticipated large influx of aircraft due to the Super Bowl being held in Minneapolis in 2018. They will have 90 slots (times aircraft can land and take off from an airport) for the event.

They have identified a ’36-hour impact’ during that weekend, and indicated they will keep the township updated as things progress.

The St. Cloud Regional Airport will be utilized during the Super Bowl because they have a longer runway than some of the other regional airports, which are necessary for certain aircraft and in case of inclement weather. The airport recently completed a 500-foot extension to their main runway, bringing it to 7,500 feet.

In addition to the regular air traffic at the Minneapolis-St. Paul International Airport, an estimated 1,100 additional aircraft are expected for the Super Bowl, so other airports are being looked at to help alleviate the traffic. Much of the additional aircraft will be VIPs and private corporate jets.

Other Business
The board authorized Schlingmann to enter into an agreement with Geronimo Energies, the company building a 15-acre five-megawatt solar array on the property behind Sysco. As per MS4 (municipal stormwater) requirements, the company will be responsible for maintaining the holding ponds.

The sheriff reported September was a busy month with 123 points of contact. These included 30 traffic, 25 security checks, four thefts, two thefts from vehicles and three accidents.

The next Haven Twp. meeting will be Nov. 20 at 7 p.m.
