Road projects discussed at Clear Lake Twp. meeting

During their April meeting, Clear Lake Twp. Engineer Terrance Vander Eyk presented the board information on road projects determined during their 2022 road tour.

Along with crack sealing and a number of smaller items, the board reviewed the proposed turn-around at the end of 76th St. that will give snowplows room to turn around and pile snow if needed. Instead of paving, the enclosed fence will be returned, this time in the correct location.

The Chinese Elms growing close to the road along 47th Ave., which had caused the pavement to heave, will be removed and the roots ground.

At the curve at the south end of 47th Ave., 50’ x 2’ of bituminous will be removed and replaced with 50’ x 3’ bituminous. For future protection, pylons will be placed at 10’ centers to mark the edge of the road. Estimated cost $1,250.

The bump on 70th Ave. will corrected by removing 10’ x 24’ pavement, supplemented with gravel base, then replaced with 4” of bituminous. Estimated cost $2,200.

Eyk will measure and provide the board on estimate for fixing pavement distress along 86th Ave. There is also pavement distress along 100th Ave. on the west side of Big Elk and along 107th Ave. on the east side, both due to periodic flooding that saturates the subgrade. The board will continue to discuss possible options.

Pavement distress was also found in areas along 95th Ave. and the 127th St. cul de sac west of 95th Ave. Eyk will provide recommendations and estimates.

Future road projects that will likely be necessary in the near future include 100th Ave. and several locations on River Oaks and Cedar Lane.
