Becker School Board visited by Robotics team & coach

Alex Yurek, a teacher of 20 years at Becker high school, presented his robotics team to the board at the latest school board meeting.

Yurek gave a rundown, giving a little history of the program that started in 2012. The students have earned 133 awards and numerous accolades over the course of their 13 seasons, including 10 state tournament appearances, nine world championship appearances, three state championships, and two Einstein appearances.

Yurek said, they have changed the name of the building that they, and other First Robotic Competition (FRC) teams use to Becker Robotics Innovation Center (BRIC). The building was originally named the Becker Robotics Arena (BRA).

Yurek said the building is an open free space for the teams to practice and hone their innovations, one of, if not the only one in Minnesota. To increase membership, the team is trying to introduce a new summer club activity called the Becker Engineering Club. It would involve tackling several engineering challenges, such as the PACK (PMMI) challenge that the robotics team won many awards conquering.
