PENDING REPAIRS. New Santiago Lion's Club President Mike Rogers displayed some photos of work not yet completed on the concession stand at the town park to Clerk Kathy Woolard, left, and Treasurer Patty Simonsmeier during the regular Santiago Town Board meeting Wednesday night.

Renovations On Santiago Agenda

Acceptance of a bid for resurfacing work on 62nd st., a discussion of pending repairs at the town park and a report on the upcoming Santiago Fun Fest were among the items on the agenda at the regular meeting of the Santiago Township Board Wednesday night.

Roadwork
Supervisor Dave Jehoich informed the board bids had been received from Hardrives, Inc., and Knife River Corp.  Following some discussion, the board voted to approve the Knife River bid of $28,120 for the project.  Township contractor John Herbst informed the board the township will realize a significant savings by performing much of the preparation work on the road project itself, including removal of existing blacktop, application of Class 5 gravel and traffic control during the resurfacing.

Park Report
The board heard a report from new Santiago Lions Club President Mike Rogers regarding the upcoming Santiago Fun Fest Sat., Aug. 15 at the town park.  Activities will include a vintage car show, a kickball tournament, craft fair, an appearance by the North Memorial air ambulance helicopter, some racing cars and a potential horseshoe tournament.  Entertainment will be provided by the Youth Group from the South Santiago Lutheran Church, and the popular beer garden and grilled pork chop and corn stands will be in full operation, Rogers said.

Rogers also informed the board a number of repairs to the concession stand and damages from the June, 2013 storm have not yet been completed.  Following the discussion, it was determined that Chairman Stuart Nelson will contact the general contractor on the project in an effort to clear up the remaining issues in advance of the Fun Fest weekend.

An ongoing audit also revealed that the Lions Club had paid $8,000 for fencing on the new backstop at the ball field.  Clerk Kathy Woolard stated she would contact the township’s insurance carrier in an effort to re-open the storm damage claim to include the fencing costs and also replacement of signs on the ball field perimeter fence.

Other Business
The board approved a request for an exempt permit for the Hope Chest for Breast Cancer organization for a fund-raising raffle to be held on Sat., Aug. 29.
The sheriff’s report listed 52 calls for service in the township in June.
