The Minnesota Dept. of Health (MDH), the Minnesota Pollution Control Agency (MPCA) and Lynden Township will host a public meeting from 4-7 p.m. Thursday, April 21 at Lynden Township Hall, 21367 Co. Rd. 44 in Stearns County, to discuss the findings from a recent investigation into private well water and groundwater quality in the area.
The investigation was conducted in March after MDH and MPCA learned of samples from two private wells in the township that showed elevated levels of some trace metals which can pose health issues if consumed on a long-term basis. The investigation indicates that there is no man-made source contaminating the groundwater and nothing unusual or extraordinary occurring with wells in the area. While water from some wells in the area have one or more metals above levels of health concern, the concentrations are within the normal range found in the groundwater in this part of the state, which has a number of these naturally occurring metals.
The public meeting will consist of an open house from 4-6 p.m., a short presentation on the investigation with time for questions and answers from 6-6:30 p.m. and continued open house from 6:30-7 p.m. During the open house, residents can speak one-to-one with state agency staff about their results, questions or concerns and get information on how they can take steps to manage the drinking water from their wells.
