The Palmer Twp. Board met Monday night and proceeded to cover all agenda items in 42 minutes.
Road Report
Clint Schendzielos reported some cars are still parking along cul-de-sacs despite the ordinance disallowing people to park along streets during the winter months. Schendzielos said it will cause problems if the cars remain parked there when snow arrives and snowplows need to get through.
The board also discussed at length some roads in the township that will need to be identified for repairs during the spring road tour.
P.E.C. Report
Roger Johnson said he called Republic Services and Central Appliance to reserve their services for the spring clean-up day event.
Park Report
Mitch Hoefer said he’s been relatively busy cutting brush and trees in the park. He also noted to the board he has been clearing leaves from the ground since very little snow has fallen.
Lake Association
Supervisor Steve Demeules mentioned an AIA Summit to be held each season in Minnesota. He also noted the BLCA is working on getting out mailings by sometime in January.
42nd Street Closure
The board voted to continue to “table” the closure of part of 42nd St. SE since they have not seen any progress on the issue. Attorney David Meyers said the last time he talked to the owner he was told the owner was going to be looking for a lawyer and a surveyor, but Meyers says he hasn’t heard back from him.
The board voted to keep the item on the agenda moving forward until new issues can be addressed.
Humane Society
The board was informed a contract with the Tri-County Humane Society was emailed to them and was expected to be signed. The contract was identified as being exactly the same kind of contract the board agreed to the previous year.
The board approved.
Republic Services
Johnson said he received a contract from Republic Services to handle the refuse for the township hall. The rate quoted is $200/mo. with them dumping the containers each week.
Johnson said there is a possibility of getting a better rate on the contract should the township extend it to 36 months instead of month-to-month. Currently, the township does not have any contract with any refuse company.
Johnson was asked to verify the size of the container quoted in the contract to see if it fits the township hall’s needs.
Sheriff’s Report
Capt. Bob Stangler said there were 100 calls for service for the month of November. Forty-four of those calls were for traffic situations and there was one burglary that resulted in an arrest.
Stangler also submitted paperwork identifying safety tips and referred to the sheriff department’s website for downloading or reading.
Fire Dept.
Fire Chief Ron Koren said his department fielded 20 calls for service in November with 15 being medicals, one being auto and four being fires.
He also told the board there will be an ice rescue event held sometime in January.
