The Minnesota Jets Cheerleading squad of Big Lake worked diligently and productively while having some fun during this past week’s Spud Fest activities.
The Jets are a local cheerleading organization that was formed in 2022 after the high school’s cheerleading program disbanded. Cheerleading Coach, School Board Member, and Jets Executive Director, Derek Nelson leads a great team of youngsters hoping to teach valuable life skills such as leadership, teamwork, and dedication, and provides opportunities for personal growth and achievement.
The Jets and their family members logged over 367 hours this past weekend during Spud Fest’s four-day festival. some of the top volunteer families included: Elijah and Natalie’s Family: 78.75 hours; Dooner Family: 64 hours; Sakara’s Family: 59.25 hours and Kinsley and Genevieve’s Family: 45.75 hours.
These families provided the foundation for their success, practically working from open to close each day. Their consistency and willingness to help others made a tremendous impact throughout the weekend.
The Jets also want to recognize Natalie R., Sakara M., Olivia H., Celine W. (Zoey), Coach Rain, and Coach Morgan. Their extra shifts, check-ins, cleanups, late nights, early mornings, and potato baking helped ensure smooth operations in the tent.
A very special acknowledgment goes to Kristina (mom of Natalie H. and Elijah H.). Kristina’s family went above and beyond, committing their entire weekend and showing incredible strength and flexibility, especially as a new family to the Jets. The organization is grateful for their outstanding contribution.
The Jets are thrilled to announce that their tent — which served meals to fair-goers — brought in over $7,000. This remarkable achievement would not have been possible without the support of every family, parent, friend, and cheerleader who stepped in, covered shifts, and gave their all to support the Jets family.
“Families and cheerleaders, we know this weekend had its challenges,” said Coaching Director Francesca. “We faced tornado watches, severe weather, sudden rain showers, power failures, flooded walking paths, heat/humidity, learning new processes, and occasional ‘grumpy’ visitors coming in from the heat. Yet, each of you who volunteered, served in the tent, and participated in the parade showed everyone exactly how high Jets can fly. Our success comes from the strength and spirit of our incredible Jets families.”
“Thank you all again for an unforgettable weekend! We’re looking forward to more events and hope to see even more cheerleaders and families join in the fun and teamwork ahead!”
