ROYAL FAMILIES. The King and Queen of Palmer serve as Grand Marshalls for the annual Palmer Day Parade. Who will wear the crown this year remains a mystery, per Palmer tradition, with the royal identities revealed only at parade time next Saturday.
BULLDOG BAND. The Becker Marching Bulldogs performed in the 2013 Palmer Day Parade, and will make a return appearance this year. Funding questions darken the future of the unit, which operates on donations independent of the school district, organizers say.

Palmer Day Just A Week Away

Another sure sign of autumn in the area, the annual Palmer Day festivities are just a week away, with a full day of activities in and around the community, crowned with the annual parade set to begin promptly at noon at the Palmer Township Hall on Sat., Sept. 6.

Palmer Day Events
The 2014 Palmer Day festivities will begin with a 5K run starting at 9 a.m.  The annual Top 20 Car Show will also begin at 9 a.m. in Palmer Park.  The parade last year included more than 60 entries, and this year’s version will again welcome the precision go-cart driving display from the Shriners Lodge.  It will again be led by the new King and Queen of Palmer, whose identities will be kept under wraps until parade time, as is the tradition at the event.

As the parade ends, the focus shifts to the events at Palmer Park, which will include all-day bean bag and horseshoe tournament competition, kid’s games from 1-3 p.m., Bingo, raffle tickets, the car show prize giving and the always popular “Koosie Kar” child-powered drag racing cars.  And area non-profits will be selling food and beverages from the concession stands in the park throughout the day.

Musical entertainment will include DJ Bob Weber in the park from 1-5 p.m., with the Honey Badgers providing the live music on the late shift from 7-11 p.m. on the park stage.

Donations are still being accepted for the event and may be in the form of cash or merchandise.  All of the profits from Palmer Day are donated to local organizations, which in 2013 included the Clear Lake Fire Dept., St. Pat’s 4-H, Becker National Honor Society, Becker Robotics Team, Palmer Park Fund, Briggs Lake Chain Fireworks, the St. Cloud Ice Breakers and the Becker Marching Band.
