For the first time in a long while, the full Orrock board of supervisors attended the meeting in person. They discussed the upcoming audit, a website update, and road updates.
Website Update
Clerk Chris Weber decided to update the town’s website to make it more user-friendly. The new website is live now at OrrockTownship.com, and can easily direct visitors to permits and forms they may need as well as information about the township.
The board was impressed with Weber’s work, and unanimously agreed to pay her for the extra hours it took to put the website together.
Sheriff’s Report
Sgt. Luke McLean was unable to report in person during the meeting, and so sent in a brief, written summary.
“Business was at normal pre-COVID levels this March compared to 2020. 2020 was lighter than normal due to COVID. [There was a] personal injury accident on March 12 at Co. Rd. 1 and Co. Rd. 4.”
Handyman Services
The board renewed their contract with Daryl Waletzko, Orrock’s Handyman. They increased Waletzko’s hourly pay to $65, a $20 increase. The dramatic increase is to compensate for not increasing the base pay for many years, and also to help Waletzko pay his employees.
Audit
Orrock is overdue to be audited, so staff sent out requests for proposals to six accounting firms. From the four that responded, the finance committee decided to hire Schlenner Wenner for its services. They decided on this firm since it had experience with other townships.
Roads
The board reviewed the results of the annual road tour. Nine potholes were found in the township, and Waletzko was asked to take care of them, as well as work on road shoulders.
The board also made a motion to spend up to $12,000 for patching large cracks in the road. They wanted to do the patching now since some larger road projects will take place next year. This year’s budget is much lighter in comparison to what will be needed in 2022, so the board was happy to spend a little extra money now rather than put the project off.
