Oakwood Church To Host Live Nativity

Oakwood Church in Becker will be featuring their fifth annual Road to Bethlehem live nativity the three days of Dec. 21-22-23 from 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m in the parking lot of Becker Furniture World.

Pastor Gerry Bass and his host of congregants brave the elements each year to remind people the true reason for the season.

And it’s completely free of charge to guests who view the event, straight from the comfort of their own vehicles.

Tourists are guided by administrators to slowly drive their vehicles through 10 stations depicting the days leading up to Jesus’ birth. The stations include greeters, Roman guards, census taker, Gabriel’s announcement to Mary, the marketplace, angels and shepherds, King Herod, the inn keeper, wise men and the manger.

Oakwood Church volunteers in costume entertain and educate people on what the Bible teaches about God becoming man over 2,000 years ago.

The final stage of the drive-through depicts the nativity where actors stand above the manger where baby Jesus (a doll) lay in the hay and grass. Mary and Joseph rejoice in the birth of the King and call out his new name — Immanuel — which means God is with us.

The drive through the stations takes less than five minutes and as they exit, visitors are given candy canes with a poignant message. They are also invited to gather at the church just a few yards away to warm up with delicious refreshments of hot cocoa, coffee and cookies in the church.

The Road to Bethlehem live nativity event should be easy to find. Just head towards the bright light — just as the shepherds and wise men did some 2,000 years ago.
