No contested races are on the ballots in Santiago and Palmer townships next Tuesday ahead of the annual meetings, which will begin at 8:01 p.m. after the polls close in the respective locations.
Incumbent Supervisor Jeff Pappenfus is seeking another three-year term on the Santiago Township Board in the Tuesday election, and Patricia Simonsmeier is the lone candidate on the ballot running to replace incumbent treasurer Jeff Anderson, who did not file for re-election, according to Clerk Kathy Woolard.
In Palmer Township, incumbent Supervisor Steve Demeules is unopposed in his quest for another three-year term on the town board, which is the only ballot question voters will decide on Tuesday, according to Clerk Kathy Miller.
Earlier town board meetings included discussions involving moving township elections in Palmer and Santiago to the same schedule as state and national elections on the second Tuesday in November, as is the case in Haven Township. Townships would save on the cost of election materials, judges and keeping the polling places open by combining local elections with the state and national votes, and the issue is expected to be brought up from the floor at the respective annual meetings next week.
