Newberger Seeks Klobuchar Seat

Rep. Jim Newberger of Becker, representing Minnesota House District 15B, announced this week he will seek the Republican endorsement for U.S. Senate in the 2018 election.

He says he is looking forward to the endorsement and challenging Sen. Amy Klobuchar for the seat - one of two Minnesotans have in the federal Senate.

U.S. Senate seats are for six-year terms.

“There are many issues facing Minnesotans that Sen. Klobuchar has failed to address,” he said. “Some of these include local input on refugee resettlement, the future of Social Security and our growing national debt.”

Rep. Newberger is currently serving his third two-year term in the Minnesota House of Representatives.

In the past legislature, he helped secure funding for the Central Minnesota disaster relief team of St. Cloud, which serves Sherburne County, the Clear Lake-Clearwater sewage plant upgrade and legislation to require DNR address local concerns in management of the Sand Dunes State Forest.

Those were in addition to several transportation and insurance funding programs, education aids and a $600 million tax refund to Minnesotans.
