Becker High School students and teachers will start their fall classes with a new principal and assistant principal in 2017-18. Rick Toso has been hired as interim principal following the resignation of Sandy Logrono. Brian Baloun — the twin brother of Police Chief Brent Baloun — was hired as assistant principal.
Toso brings over 40 years of classroom and other leadership experience to the role. Teaching first in the small town of Renville, southwest of Willmar, Toso has spent most of his career in the Buffalo School District. Recently he was the student teacher supervisor at Southwest Minnesota State University and before that he was practicum supervisor at Minnesota State University Moorhead.
He also was education administrator at Big Lake Schools from Aug. to Oct. of 2015.
He is a 1972 Graduate of Concordia College, Moorhead, and completed his master's degree and education administration certificate at St. Cloud State University.
Baloun is an experienced assistant principal with a history of working in the education management industry. Skilled in K-12 education, educational leadership, secondary education, teaching, and educational technology.
Baloun is a strong education professional with a sixth year specialist focused in K-12 principal administration from St Mary's University of St. Paul. He has served as assistant principal at Sartell (July 2015 to July 2017) and AP at Apollo High School from July 2011 to June of 2015. He also served as principal at McKinley Alternative Learning Center in St. Cloud for one year (2010-11).
