An energetic, yet well-behaved group of 16 area youngsters gathered at the Becker Community Center last Saturday morning to participate in the annual “Cooking with Mrs. Claus” event. The program was the next event on the Holiday calendar for the BCC that ushered in the Christmas season, just two weeks away from Christmas Eve.
The kids arrived at Saturday’s event and took seats at one of three tables. The tables were set up in the middle of the room and featured coloring book sheets and crayons for the kids to express themselves before Mrs. Claus arrived.
On three tables surrounding the children were cookie stations where the kids would learn to decorate cookies from Santa’s wife and her elf
helper.
One table featured Nutter Butter cookies (in the shape of a peanut) where children could douse the cookie in vanilla, chocolate or cherry frosting, then decorate the confection to make it look like a snowman or Santa or a reindeer.
The second table had donut holes and a bowl of vanilla frosting. Kids were asked to dunk their donut holes in the frosting, then stack the donut holes to create a snowman. Some sprinkles were on hand to make eyes and buttons.
The final table had plain sugar cookies and a plethora of decorating items such as frosting (in green and red), red and green M&M’s, colorful sprinkles and popsicle sticks to do the spreading and decorating.
Christmas music was played in the background as Mrs. Claus and her elf-friend wandered from table-to-table to teach the kids how to best decorate their yummy treats. Mrs. Claus also brought along a couple Christmas-themed storybooks she read to the children following the cookie decorating fun.
Mrs. Claus also took the time to pose for pictures with the kids and staff that helped make the event a special one for so many young believers in the magic of Christmas.
At the end, Mrs. Claus shared a secret of how to guide Santa and his sleigh of reindeer to each child’s house on Christmas Eve night!
