The Becker Township Board met last month and discussed landscaping, ditch work, road use agreements, fee schedules and inspection services, amongst other items.
Landscaping Request
Chris Monroe requested to do some landscaping in the easement on his property line.
The board directed Monroe to obtain approval from HOA and get the engineer to work with him to set agreement in case any work needs to be done in the easement at a later date. The board also told Monroe a building permit will be required to obtain due to size.
A motion was made by the board to approve the retaining wall structure placement in the drainage and utilities easement and authorized staff to work with the property owner for a licensing agreement. Monroe was told no building permit will be issued until all pieces are in place.
Ditch Work
LaVanne Shanks requested the township do some work on a ditch.
Shanks distributed a letter and photographs to the board identifying her appeal. She said she was told by the county attorney the ditch in question is not a county ditch. John Herbst was in attendance at the township meeting and stated his observations to the board. Chair Brian Kolbinger said the township doesn't own the ditch in question and that it is a private ditch. The township has no jurisdiction so there is nothing the township can do.
Road Use Agreement
A road use agreement with U.S. Site Work was discussed. U.S. Site Work will be removing clay off a property on 82nd street this month (July). The agreement was approved by the board and will move to the joint planning board for a final ruling on the interim use permit.
Fee Schedule
It was brought to the attention of the board the township’s fee schedule is lower than the county’s in several areas. When planning and zoning was taken on by the township, it was stated that it would not cost more to obtain permits here. Staff was asked to review from time to time. No changes were made at this time.
Inspection Services
An RFP for building inspection services has gone out in conjunction with the City of Becker. The year of 2009 was the last time prices were reviewed.
Snow Contract
The board voted to adopt the same snow contract for next year and they let out for bids in July.
Bid opening will occur at the July 17 meeting.
Sheriff’s Report
The deputy with the Sherburne County Sheriff’s Dept. said the month of May was “regular”, though thefts are prevalent on unlocked vehicles at citizen’s residences. The deputy took the opportunity to remind township residents to always lock their vehicles.
