Memorials March on in Clearwater and Clear Lake

A little rain and the threat of severe weather didn’t stop the Clearwater and Clear Lake Color Guards from honoring veterans who have gone before them.

The legionnaires followed the same schedule as usual, first stopping at St. Marcus Cemetery in Clear Lake, then Haven Cemetery (along Hwy. 10), Highland Cemetery (Hasty), Mount Hope and St. Luke’s Cemeteries (Clearwater) and ending at Acacia Cemetery (along Co. Rd. 75).

Driving vehicles instead of motorcycles this year, Clearwater Legion Riders escorted the Color Guard along the route. Taps was played, 21-gun salutes were performed, and flags were displayed at each cemetery, however veterans’ names weren’t read off like they usually are.

Back in Clearwater, the Legion hosted their annual Memorial Day program, ceremony, and luncheon.
