Medallion Finder Gets His Dough

Nine-year-old Nathan Weiss of Becker found the hidden medallion on the third day of clues during this year’s Freedom Days festivities.
 
For his effort, Nathan gets to keep the medallion and was issued a $100 finder’s check from Sherburne State Bank Thursday afternoon.
 
Nathan said he was standing near a tree at the BAC and picked up a branch where he saw some red, white and blue colors. He noticed something wrapped in camouflage duct tape and leaves and pulled it out and knew he had found the prize.
 
Since he was out with his family — and especially his brother — he has decided to share the winnings with his 12-year-old brother, Alex.
 
“I’m gonna put my money in my bank and save it for something big!” Nathan said.
 
Monday’s Clue
Two by two we welcome you to read the clues and start your hunt. Your search will take you to public land. Avoid private property and use good judgement. No digging, climbing or scaling of walls. From a hiding spot above ground, the medallion calls. Pleasant Valley was once the name of this charming hamlet. The medallion will be located within the boundaries of Minnesota’s best kept secret.
 
Explanation: A number two by the number two is 22 - the number of acres at the Becker Athletic Complex (BAC). The medallion was in a tree (above the ground). Pleasant Valley and Minnesota’s best kept secret are all about Becker.
 
Bonus Clue
A bonus clue was given out at Monday’s Open Streets event. The clue was: Perennial plants with well-defined crowns, gets you closer to where the medallion can be found. Explanation: Reference to a tree.
 
Tuesday’s Clue
Single, clustered, scaly needles. Simple, lobed, compound leaves. Amongst here will one the medallion perceive. You won’t have to part the Red Sea, but if closer to the medallion you wish to be, then following Moses is the right avenue to get you started, one supposes.
 
Explanation: The first line is a bout a tree. Moses Sherburne was the name of a man whom Sherburne County named the road after. It is also the avenue you can follow to get to Myhre Street, which takes you to the BAC.
 
Wednesday’s Clue
A box of excellent quality Zea Mays Everta and Archis Hypogaea will help ya. If you spot a fish out of water, then you’re getting hotter. You’ll have to keep looking around, but it won’t be found on the ground.
 
Explanation: Excellent quality is Cracker Jack. The scientific name for popcorn and peanuts follow. At the BAC playground is a large fish on the side of the playground equipment.
 
Thursday’s Clue
A birdie gets you near, but you’ll have to putter around. When searching high and low fro this year’s medallion to be found. It pays to be organized, but alphabetical acumen might not help you find this medallion. Try mixing it up a wee bit, in order to find it.
 
Explanation: Morning Dove Drive is the street address of the BAC. The acronym is not ABC, so you have to mix up the alphabet.
 
Friday’s Clue
Lawless Procyon Lotor come out at night to play here. This mascot often makes its den where the prise is hidden. Try not to get stuck in the muck and the Myhre of this game we hope you won’t tire. Early in the day is when the bird’s song will play.
 
Explanation: The Becker Bandits’ mascot is a racoon and they play at the BAC. Myhre Street leads to the BAC, but the street address is Morning Dove Drive.
 
Saturday’s Clue
Let’s root, root, root for the medal. If it’s not found, that’s a shame. Cause it’s 1, 2, 3 strikes you’re out at the old ball game. To hit a home run, you’ll want to find the odd tree in this group.
 
Explanation: The medallion was hidden in a tree past the outfield of one of the baseball diamonds at the BAC. The tree it was hidden in was not an Oak, so it was an odd one out since the surrounding trees predominantly are oak trees.
