McDonald’s Meats is a family owned retail meat and butcher shop that has been operating in Clear Lake for 106 years.
John Leo McDonald started the business in 1914 and his son Dick took over in 1954. John Leo’s grandson Dave took the reins in 1989 and now his son, Travis McDonald is carrying on the tradition.
Currently, Dave, Travis and Jennifer Dierkes co-own the business that has stood at 8601 Main Ave. for over 100 years.
“We have a high standard for our products and that’s been the way it’s always been since 1914,” says Travis McDonald.
Another standard they try and maintain is good customer service. Whether it’s the regulars who come in every week or first time customers who happen to drive by or have been referred by someone else, the McDonalds ensure all their employees are polite, friendly and helpful.
McDonald’s Meats is affectionately known as the “Jerky Stop” as they feature over 26 different kinds of jerky in many flavors.
They also provide USDA inspected processing for local farmers and process wild game.
“Come visit us,” says Dierkes. “See why we’ve been here for over 100 years.”
