Lynden Twp.’s April meeting was brief, consisting of various requests, inquiries, and updates along with notices of upcoming meetings and events.
Requests and Inquires
The township received a request from Stearns Co. to review Stearns Co. Ord. No. 618 Changes to Land Use and Zoning Ordinance. If the board wished to be more restrictive than stated in the ordinance the county asked to be contacted. Supervisor Dennis Niemi informed the board he had reviewed the ordinance and found no issues.
The township received a request from Stearns Co. Emergency Management for participants to help update the county’s hazard mitigation plan. A motion carried approving Chair Dave Johnson to participate in the group and to be reimbursed for his time and mileage.
The township received a request from the Stearns Co. surveyor to be given notice of road construction projects for 2021. Niemi will respond.
Johnson informed the board he met with Midco regarding a large project planned in the township; permits are pending. A right of way work permit is also pending for Stearns Electric for Co. Road 44 and 9th Ave. E.
Two inquires for variances were received by the township, one for a detached garage size exception on a 193rd Street E. property and one for a building expansion and allowable lot coverage on a Hubble Road property; no submissions for either have been received.
The township received an office expansion inquiry for Johnson Materials on 196th Street E; no submission has been received to date.
Other Business
The township received a garage and debris complaint at a property on Eaglewood Road. Supervisor Tom Plaggerman reviewed the property and confirmed two vehicles with expired plates parked in the driveway along with tires, bikes, an outdoor motor, screen door, appliances, and more.
A motion carried to defer action to Stearns Co. as the property lies within shoreland and is within their jurisdiction.
A motion carried approving Resolution 2021-02, a resolution authorizing the town board chair and town clerk to execute customary contracts, agreements, and town documents by electronic signature and to waive the reading.
Oath of Office and Certificate of Election has been issued to Dennis Niemi and Jean Schermer. An Appointment of Deputy Treasurer has been issued to Dan Torgersen and an Appointment of Deputy Clerk has been issued to Kelli Schuh.
Spring Cleanup Day will be held on April 24 at the Clearwater Twp. Hall on Hwy. 24. The Explorer’s Group will be volunteering.
The township’s spring road tour was held on April 15, the results of which to be discussed at a later date.
A joint meeting was held with the Fire Study Group, Lynden Twp. and Clearwater Twp. on April 19, results of which to be discussed at a later date.
The next Lynden Twp. meeting will be May 3 at 7 p.m.
