On July 4 at 06:49 a.m. Becker Police were dispatched to a fire at the Becker Athletic Complex, 1295 Morning Dove Dr, Becker. Upon arrival, officers located two portable toilets and a shed on fire. Becker Fire Department arrived to extinguish the fire, however the portable toilets, shed and contents were a complete loss.
The Becker Police Department investigated the fire and learned that an adult male and adult female had lit several fireworks in the portable toilets, which then caught fire and subsequently started the shed on fire. Long form complaint requests have been sent to the Sherburne County Attorney’s Office for arson and criminal damage to property for both adults. No names will be released at this time, pending formal complaints by the Sherburne County Attorney.
“The senseless actions by two individuals on the 4th of July resulted in a great loss to our community,” said Becker Chief of Police, Chris Lindbloom. “The portable toilets for use by the community enjoying our great parks and the youth baseball shed, which contained all the equipment needed to provide youth baseball and t-ball enrichment activities for hundreds of Becker youth. I am proud of our community for financially supporting the Becker Youth Baseball Association so they can replace lost equipment and continue to serve our community.”
