Low Turnout For Clear Lake Twp Election And Annual Meeting

As expected by officials, there was low turnout for Clear Lake Township’s election and annual meeting Tuesday evening.

Larry Seeley volunteered as meeting moderator, and the minutes from last year’s annual meeting were read and approved.

Clerk Mary Mathison revealed the election results, with incumbent Joe Goenner winning re-election after receiving all 28 ballots.

Voters approved the projected 2017 levy in the amount of $450,000, the same amount approved last year.

Chairperson Gary Gray reviewed the proposed budget, explaining the general fund had been reduced slightly but the fire budget had been increased due to restructuring of the contract. The roads and bridges budget had also been built up in order to accomplish their proposed jobs.

Concerning the building fund, Gray explained money was consistently placed into it for the eventual building of a new township hall. Money isn’t moved into the building fund until the end of the year however, and can be taken out at any time if needed by the township.

A motion was made and approved by voters for the board to set the budget.

Paul Goenner gave the treasurer’s report, explaining the township didn’t have much road improvement or snow removal the past year, so the budget was high in that area. Cash and fund distribution for 2015 was $798,984. At year’s end the general fund had a balance of $484,583, building allocation a balance of $692,615, and the road fund a balance of $106,369.

The revenue summary indicated total revenue of $262,468 in the road fund and $249,605 in the general fund, including money from traffic fines, which the township only started receiving a couple years ago.

Total fund disbursements and investments came to $274,223, and total road fund disbursements $169,557.

Supervisor Bud Stimmler gave the park report, informing attendees the fire department will be doing their five-year burn at Clear Lake Township Park before Memorial Day, mostly on the east side where it’s more prairie land.
