Look Out! Frontage Road Construction

Noticed a lot of construction work going on in the business park in Becker?

The City of Becker is constructing a new frontage road from Co. Rd. 8 into the business park. It is meant to connect the county road to Liberty Lane near Liberty Paper.

The city hopes to have safer, more efficient and overall less disruptive traffic into the business park with this project. Keeping business traffic in check as the business park grows is a goal of the city.

Also, a storm water and sewer connection is being placed beneath the roadway to connect Northern Metal Recycling and future occupants of the business park to the existing water and sewer system.

This project is part of a larger investment that will help Becker transition away from a coal-based economy. This project not only will make for safer road access, but it will also open additional acreage for business growth.

The city is anticipating increasing activity in the business park in the coming years. As the city grows, the frontage road along with the new infrastructure are key for continuing growth and are necessary to attract businesses of scale.

The project kicked off in mid-August. Most of the work from Liberty Lane to Hancock will be complete prior to freeze. Weather permitting, crews are expected to finish 2019 construction mid-November. The remaining construction of the frontage road from Hancock west towards Co. Rd. 8, including utilities and storm sewers, will be completed in 2020.
