Light Agenda At Palmer Twp. Meeting

The Palmer Twp. Board of Supervisors had a light agenda for their meeting Monday night, discussing road updates and a variance request for a septic upgrade.

Road Report

The board reviewed bids that came in for striping 29 miles of township roads. Both bids came in over $40,000, so the board will determine which areas need the work done immediately and table the rest.

Work on 54th Street is still planned for this fall. Schendzielos and Connexus Energy are working together to get the highline poles moved so the dirt work can be completed.

New house signs have been installed and the minimum maintenance road sign has been replaced.

There is a cracking and a pothole on 115th, which was redone just a few years ago.

Variance Request

Matt Lunser approached the board to request a ROW variance for a septic upgrade on his 56th Street property. Due to the location of shallow wells on his and a neighboring property, the only place for upgrade to be installed is near the road in front of his house.

The township has a 33’ setback, which the proposed septic upgrade doesn’t infringe upon, however, Lunser was told by the county that the township has an additional 10’ utility easement, which it would encroach upon. There is no drainage issue.

Chairman Mike Ganz said the issue may be handled with a license agreement between Lunser and the township, and indicated he will discuss whether one is necessary with Township Attorney David Meyers.

A motion carried approving the request.

Park Report

An estimate for $4,060 for the construction of new outdoor lighting at the park entrance on Co. Road 6 was received. The project will be budgeted in for next spring.

A discussion was held on what type of paper towel rollers should be purchased for the park and the township hall.

Other Business

A $2,000 donation from the Palmer Day committee was presented.

There was no sheriff’s report available at the time of the meeting.

The fire department reported 21 calls for service for September; four medical and one fire alarm were in Palmer Twp.

The next Palmer Twp. meeting will be Nov. 18 due to Veteran’s Day.
