Sept. 11, Lake Liquors held its third-annual, fun-packed, MMBA (Minnesota Municipal Beverage Association) fundraiser for the Big Lake Fire Dept. The event was hosted at McPete’s, and featured lots of exciting activities, including: a bean bag tournament with 25 competing teams; a silent auction of items donated by community members and area businesses; a feast of burgers grilled by firefighters; balloon animals; bowling; giveaways for kids; and other awesome activities.
Lisa Miller of the liquor store was the event organizer, and she said she couldn’t have hoped for a better result.
“In all, we raised $5,700 for the Big Lake Fire Dept.,” she said. “And every last dollar will be going to the department.”
She wanted to personally thank all the area businesses who donated gift cards and items for the silent auction and to use as giveaways, and she especially wanted to thank McPete’s for opening up their location to the event and lending their expertise in event planning.
She was only disappointed that the dunk tank was out of commission that day. In this reporter’s opinion, it would have been entertaining to see the follow-through on city council and town board promises of dunk each other from the week before!
