Some kids had a chance to celebrate an early Halloween during the Spooky Storytime program at the Clearwater Library last Saturday.
About a dozen kids donned their costumes and spent the morning playing games, doing crafts and listening to a special Halloween story.
Kids were dressed in all sorts of costumes - Spiderman, Curios George, a fairy princess, Power Ranger, Ninja Turtle, a court jester, witches and a vampire. They all sat in a circle around Clearwater Librarian Cyrene Bastien, who greeted everyone and said it was the 15th year the library had held a Halloween program.
She spoke about one year when she dressed as a witch.
“I had a green face, a funny nose and long black hair, and I looked really scary,” she said. “A week later some of the moms were saying I was too scary.”
She wasn’t in costume Saturday as she read this year’s spooky story, Trick arrr Treat, about a group of kids dressed as pirates going from door to door, searching for Halloween treasure.
Kids had a great time asking questions and making comments about the pirates.
When the story was done, everyone went to different tables to do crafts or play games. They made paper plate spiders and mummies, colored candy corn, pom pom spiders, spider webs and played Halloween Bingo. There was even a Halloween bowling game and pumpkin ping pong.
It was a fun event for everyone, even for the parents, who sat down with the kids and helped with the crafts.
The event was sponsored by the Friends of the Clearwater Library.
