Kelly Bergman To Travel Internationally In August

South Santiago Lutheran Church in Clear Lake, MN is proud to be sending Kelly Bergman from our worship community out into the world to serve with the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America’s program called Young Adults in Global Missions(YAGM) in August of this year. This coming year there will be 64 young adults serving in places like Argentina & Uruguay, Central Europe (Hungary), Jerusalem/West Bank, Madagascar, Mexico, Rwanda, Southern Africa and the United Kingdom. The YAGM volunteers serve in a variety of areas, including congregational ministry, human rights work, development projects, healthcare, education and youth work. This year of service provides an opportunity for global service, spiritual growth, community building and reflection on one’s place in God’s world, all during a formative time in a young adult’s life.

“A year of service through the Young Adults in Global Mission program invites young adults to become the hands and feet of Jesus in the world, providing critical support to ministries and projects in communities of need. It also invites volunteers into a journey of self-reflection, providing space to consider their sense of identity, God’s work in the world, and their please within it all.

Young adults serve in the spirit of accompaniment, walking alongside global companions in a manner that practices mutuality, interdependence and solidarity. Areas of service include, but are not limited to, health and development, congregational ministry, human rights, education, homelessness, addiction recovery, women’s issues and children and youth. All site placements provide opportunities for young adults to confront issues of wealth and poverty racial privilege, economic disparity and globalization, all through the lens of faith."  Quote from the elca.org website.

Kelly will be spending a year serving in Edinburgh, Scotland in the United Kingdom through this wonderful program. The average cost for each participant of this program is $11,000, of which each individual is responsible for raising $4,000. If you would like to support a Kelly you can contact South Santiago Lutheran Church at sslcmn.org to make a donation, or mail a check to the church at 14675-37th Street, Clear Lake, MN  55319 and specify Kelly Bergman YAGM in the memo line.   You can read updates from Kelly throughout the year at http://kellyintheunitedkingdom.blogspot.com/ or check out the ELCA.org website for more ways in which you can support those in the state of Minnesota in this mission.
