Joe  Perry To Hold Concert At Bhs, Nov. 23

Becker native Joe Perry will be playing a concert in his hometown Nov. 23 along with Beth Hull — winner of the 2013 NCYC contest and Mathias Michael, the 2011 NCYC contest winner.

The concert starts at 4 p,n, and will be held at the new Becker High School auditorium with a $5 minimum donation requested. The music will be primarily Christian with some popular songs thrown into the mix. Many of the songs will be original by the headliners and people of all ages, from children to seniors, are invited to attend.

Perry, who himself was a top 10 finalist at the 2013 National Catholic Youth Conference Top Talent contest in Indianapolis last fall, has been on three tours over the past year, traveling to Illinois, Florida and Indiana.

Hull was announced the winner of last year’s contest and has been invited to record her own album with Heart Beat Records.

All the finalists were invited to tour and record songs for a compilation album on The Buzz label.

Perry, writer of four original songs, was accepted into the NCYC contest when he submitted videos of himself performing songs and his dream of becoming a musician and songwriter took off when he was invited to perform in Indianapolis before a panel of judges and audience of NCYC youth.

Perry, who has his own CD titled, “Summer Songs”, has two of his four songs on the compilation CD. He has sold 150 copies of his CD so far and his songs are available on iTunes.

In performing Christian music, Perry hopes to inspire listeners to think more about their faith, rather than just “go through the motions”. Perry says his music has been a large part of his own faith and has brought him closer to God.

“Believing in God and being strong in your faith can have a strong influence in your life,” he says. “It can help you look forward to the future and to heaven.”

As Perry approaches the midway point of his senior year of high school, he is scrutinizing his options for further education. Whether music becomes his job or remains a hobby, Perry knows it’ll always be a big part of his life.

“I really couldn’t see myself living without it,” Perry said.
