Inventor’s Fair Makes Learning Fun

The energy level was high at Clearview Elementary Feb. 5 as fifth graders had an opportunity to show off their talents during the school’s annual Inventor’s Fair.

Four classrooms were packed with people, inventions and displays as the students eagerly explained and demonstrated their projects and answered questions, some entirely in Spanish.

The inventions ranged from practical to fanciful and exhibited lots of creativity and imagination.

Kate Morgan T. demonstrated the “Pup Elevator 13” she invented to help her 13-year-old dog, Bruiser, get into the family vehicle.

“He has a hard time getting into our car now,” she explained. “And he weighs 107 pounds so he’s a lot to lift up.”

During research for her project, Elli K. discovered eating and driving increases the chance of an accident by 80%, worse even than texting and driving, so she invented the “Cup ‘O Sauce To Go.” The invention consists of a drink holder with a detachable ketchup cup on the side to make eating on the road easier and safer.

Avery G. said she and her grandpa go ice fishing together and always lose fish, so she invented the “Ice Fishing Landing Net,” a small, flexible version of a traditional fishing net. Instead of demonstrating her invention, she had fair-goers try it out for themselves so they could get an idea of how to use it.

“I love when Grandpa and I do teamwork,” she said. “I hate touching fish so he catches them and I scoop them out.”

Brady S. invented “The Ultimate Sweeper,” a remote control car with a small broom attached to the front because he doesn’t like doing his chores.

“With The Ultimate Sweeper I can sit down on my chair and do them.” he explained.

Events like the Inventor’s Fair encourage curiosity in and out of the classroom and help foster interest and enthusiasm for math and science in young minds.

Attendees at the Inventor’s Fair were impressed with the level of professionalism of both the inventions and the demonstrations.

“It’s fun to see all this creativity,” said one. “The ideas here are just amazing!”
