Holiday Craft Show Drew A Crowd

It was standing room only for the Christmas carols performed by the Becker All-Grades Choir last Sunday night at the Becker Community Center.  The BCC had incorporated a craft fair into the program this year for the first time, which drew displays from artisans and groups from around the area to the event.

Becker Mayor Jerome “Lefty” Kleis was on hand with two of his grandchildren.  After being introduced by BCC manager Jamie Cassidy, Kleis thanked the audience members for attending the event, and said he hopes to keep it a regular Holiday tradition in Becker in the years to come.  Kleis also gave a tip of the hat to former mayor David Graning, who began the tree-lighting tradition several years ago.

Following the mayor’s remarks, BHS Choir Director Gretchen Bordson introduced what is by far the largest choir ever to attend the Becker tree-lighting program.  She said the invitation to sing had been sent to students from the middle school and high school this year. With the gymnasium in use by the craft show space for singers was at a premium, though they and their director found a spot to tuck in along the back wall.

Once the indoor singing was done, the whole group transferred to the BCC front lawn, where Cassidy counted down 10 seconds before the three evergreens lit up for the Holidays and the choir performed their last song.
