The Haven Twp. Board reviewed a video filmed by resident Bruce Hentges during their meeting Monday night that showed the large amount of dust generated by trucks passing by his property on 65th Street.
Hentges had approached the board in May regarding this issue; His main concern is the amount of dust ending up in Pickerel Lake due to it.
The original description of the road doesn’t match up to where it actually is, currently the town has a road by use for it. A discussion was held on whether or not they should actually realign the road, pave a portion of it or just put down calcium chloride.
“Our position has been if we don’t have a road order we don’t do major projects on it,” said Chairman Jeff Schlingmann.
The township has had issues in the past getting all property owners to sign off in order for them to acquire a road order.
In order to move forward with Hentges request, Supervisor Mark Knowles suggested the township get bids on the cost to move the road and the cost to pave a portion of it as it is currently.
Road Report
Knowles informed the board the Sherwood Shores project is doing well and he’ll be working with Bogart Pederson to put together a bid packet for release in either January or February.
Jeff Rhodes told the board he had ordered 100 9x1 metal posts for right-of-way markers to replace the ones he’d used of his own and so there will be some on hand for future needs. He also ordered 50 right-of-way marker signs.
Erik Meyer approached the board to discuss the plowing of Sherwood Shores; currently Haven and Clear Lake Twps. plow portions of it. Meyer suggested looking at the townships working together for more efficiency.
Twp. Attorney David Meyers stated they would just need an agreement put into place similar to a township line agreement.
The board agreed it made sense to look into the matter and will contact Clear Lake Twp. to discuss the possibility.
Other Business
Supervisor Randy Linn provided the board with printouts of his preliminary 2021 budget that included receipts and disbursements from 2015 to current. After review, the board determined they will look at it again at their January meeting when the majority of 2019 has come in.
Linn and Mike Pesch will look into what supervisors in other townships are earning; Haven hasn’t looked at their wage rate for a number of years.
A motion carried approving the election judges for the new March primary.
The sheriff reported 71 calls for service for November, including one damage to a vehicle, one fatal accident, five medicals and three thefts, including one mail theft, one propane torch theft and one theft of a catalytic converter.
The next Haven Twp. meeting will be Jan. 20 at 7 p.m.
