During their meeting Monday night, bids were opened for bituminous work on Haven Twp.’s Sherwood West project. Bids were submitted from Knife River and MN Paving & Materials; Knife River had the low bid with $129,831.
The township’s engineer recommended the board not approve the bid until the dirt work is done, which is expected to be within three weeks. He suggested they be open to holding a special meeting to award the contract at that time, based on whether or not the weather is still good for paving.
The board indicated they wanted to move forward with the base yet this year, however, if the weather doesn’t hold both layers will need to be completed next spring.
A motion carried to execute the contract with Gertken Bros. for the excavation work on Sherwood West. The company was awarded the project at the township’s August meeting and plans to begin next week.
Supervisor Mark Knowles informed the board he would be attending a preconstruction meeting later in the week to review the project.
Supervisor Kathy Kosloski said the temporary mailboxes had been installed for Sherwood West residents.
Road Report
Jeff Rhodes approached the board to present a proposal for tree trimming and removal he recommended be completed before winter. The board indicated they will look over the suggested areas and follow up with him.
Knowles requested Rhodes install snow fences in the four areas the township has erected them in the past.
Public Hearings
A public hearing was held concerning Jason Becker’s registered land survey in Sherwood West. He plans to group three parcels he owns in order to have enough pervious surface after he expands a building.
Seeing no issues, a motion carried to approve the request.
A public hearing was held concerning Emery and Kathleen LaPointe’s request for a CUP to build a personal storage structure on their 75th Ave. SE property.
Seeing no issues, a motion carried to approve the request.
Other Business
The sheriff reported a standard month for August, which included one littering complaint of a couch in a ditch and one theft from an unlocked vehicle in a driveway. Three other unlocked vehicles were also gone through; residents are encouraged to keep their vehicles locked.
The next Haven Twp. meeting will be Oct. 21 at 7 p.m.
