Haven Board Approves New Fee Schedule

The Haven Township Board unanimously approved a new fee schedule for zoning ordinances, subdivisions, permits and inspections at its regular meeting Monday night.  The only other item on the agenda was an update from Chairman Jeff Schlingmann regarding the removal of the 54th st. bridge.

Fee Schedule
The board had discussed updating the fee schedule at several previous meetings, and unanimously approved a resolution put forward by Supervisor Mike Pesch, seconded by Supervisor Kathy Sims-Kosloski.  At an earlier meeting, Schlingmann had said that the township schedule had not been revised for a number of years, and that the then-current fees were significantly lower those charged by surrounding townships.

The new schedule reflects the costs to the township to act on requests for various services.

The schedule adopted Monday has some significantly higher costs, including the following:  An Interim Use Permit had cost $450 per application under the old schedule, and now will cost $2,500 per application; an application for a variance to the Board of Adjustment had cost $400 per application, and will now cost $2,500 per application, with a $1,500 fee for any appeals.  A subdivision standard plat cost $700 per application and $50 per lot under the old schedule, and will now cost $2,500 per application and $50 per lot.  A final plat had carried a $700 application fee and $25 per lot and now carries a $1,200 application fee and $25 per lot cost.

A new driveway permit will now cost $200, plus $35 per hour plus mileage, a storm water management and erosion control (MS4) permit application fee is $1,000 plus town costs and a work in right of way permit will cost $200 plus $35 per hour plus mileage.

The new schedule takes effect immediately.

Bridge Update
Schlingmann told the board he had been contacted by Sherburne County Engineer Rhonda Lewis, who informed him that the plan for the removal of the 54th st. bridge has been approved and that a request for bids on the project will be advertised.  Completion of the removal is expected in late November or early December, he said.

The township will not bear any cost for the removal project, Schlingmann said. The board discussed the need for barrier gates on both sides of the bridge, especially on the west side approach from 32nd st.  Schlingmann stated that it “would be prudent to limit access to an area where we don’t have a bridge anymore.”

Other Business

The board approved a resolution authorizing $2,500 for updated computer equipment for Clerk/Treasurer Mike Zniewski.
