Natural medicine is becoming more mainstream every year, with even most traditional medical practitioners now recognizing it. Holistic health is one of the fastest growing forms of natural medicine; it looks to ‘whole life’ heath, addressing the full range of a person’s physical, emotional, spiritual, and environmental influences, and employing therapies that extend beyond traditional medical practices.

For those interested in the benefits of holistic health, a new business has recently opened up in Clearwater called Root of Wellness, LLC.

Root of Wellness is owned and operated by Lori Johnson, a local health professional who worked as an occupational therapist for 20 years. She first became interested in holistic health in 2000, when she started as a distributer for Young Living Essentials Oil and began learning about the health benefits of aromatherapy.

She continued to learn more about natural health, and in 2018 went back to school for two years to become a certified holistic health practitioner and board-certified traditional naturopath.

Naturopaths don’t diagnose, prescribe, or cure diseases. Instead, they search for the root cause of a person’s poor health and use natural means to help them achieve better overall health and wellness.

“When you come into Root of Wellness, we start with a health consultation,” said Johnson. “I’ll do various assessments to determine where your health is, and we’ll sit down and talk about your current health concerns.”

Treatments are tailored to the individual, so afterward Johnson may suggest natural supplements, natural oils, lifestyle changes, or other treatments.

“Our goal is to look at what is going on with the person and what is causing it,” she said. “The root causes, which is where the name of the business came from. We want to balance everything so the person can be healthier and feel better rather than just masking symptoms.”

Johnson offers select hands-on treatments at Root of Wellness, including ionic foot detox, Xtract and Raindrop techniques, and Zyto readings and recommendations. She also provides carefully chosen natural products for sale on site and through her website, rootofwellnessmn.com.

Along with Young Living Essential Oils, Root of Wellness offers Nutritional Frontiers and Life Vantage supplements to help bring its clients closer to better overall health and wellness. Most products are available for purchase on site, others can be ordered and picked up at the office. Product links are also provided on the website so clients can place orders for themselves.

Once pandemic restrictions are lifted, Johnson’s goal is to offer monthly get-togethers that will focus on different wellness topics, such as natural facials, oils, and how to perform acupressure.

“This is original healthcare,” she said. “It’s what God gave us to be healthy.”

Root of Wellness is located in Clearwater’s historic downtown at 445 Main Street. For more information or to request an appointment, call 320-558-1108 or visit rootofwellnessmn.com.
