Food And Fun Found At Monthly Young At Heart Events

Shouts of “Bingo!” followed by half-hearted groans were heard in Clearwater last Thursday during the monthly get together of Young at Heart.

Young at Heart is an event begun four years ago as a way for people of the community to gather on a regular basis. Held at Rejoice Lutheran Church in Clearwater, the group is nondenominational, with people from all over the local area attending and helping out. A variety of programs are offered for both entertainment and education throughout the year.

November’s program for Young at Heart attendees was grocery bingo, with players competing for 14 gift cards donated by Coborn’s, The Kettle, Taco Gringo, Dairy Queen, Subway and other local businesses.

Next month is the group’s annual Christmas Merriment party with a Christmas carol sing-along and visit from Santa and Mrs. Claus.

Everyone is invited to attend Young at Heart’s upcoming events, which include:

• Dec. 19: Christmas Merriment;

• Jan. 16: Hearing…Huh, what did you say?;

• Feb. 20: Music by Terry Nelson;

• March 19: Grocery Bingo;

• April 16: Foster Grandparent Program;

• May 21: Photographer and storyteller Doug Ohman, WPA program;

• June 18: Music by Dave Cofell.

Young at Heart meets the third Thursday of every month at Rejoice Lutheran Church in Clearwater. Attendees begin gathering at 10:30 a.m. to talk and play cards, followed by lunch at noon ($5 suggested donation) and a program. The group is funded entirely by donations. To sign up, call Rejoice at 320-558-6851 or email rejoice@rejoicelutheranchurch.org. Everyone is welcome!
